SONO FIGURES SOCIETY – small works
SONO FIGURES SOCIETY is a Copenhagen based group out of the Norwegian composer, musician and puppeteer Marte Røyeng, German vocalist, puppeteer and puppet maker Sarah Buchner (based in Denmark) and Danish-American Textile and Costume Designer Nat Johns.
They met over their shared fascination for contemporary puppet theater and experimental sound, aiming to contribute through cross-disciplinary artistic innovation within the Nordic scene for experimental music and theater.
Aesthetically dedicated towards punk surrealism their work explores different methods to connect sound and puppet – from improvisation, to composed theater, and extended musical composition. The group is on a long term journey to research what different meanings the term sound-puppetry can hold engaging in a from-scratch practice that includes building their own puppets and stage designs. They debuted in Copenhagen with their first piece ‘Kumulus Morpho’, showcasing a larger-than-life figure at Bådteatret in Nyhavn April 2023.

Five improvisers will use the space of KoncertKirken to present five solo sets, finishing with a collective ensemble set. The audience is invited to follow their ears and move throughout the space from solo-site to solo-site.
Each improviser has prepared a specific intention that guides their improvisation. Distilled in a solo set, their intention will be made clear, and blended in an ensemble constellation it will coalesce to the group sound.
Ása Önnu Ólafsdóttir – Asalaus is the stage name for experimental musician Ása Önnu Ólafsdóttir (b. 2000), hailing from the underground music scene in Iceland. With a sound that is both raw and intricate, Asalaus creates music that challenges the boundaries of genre and pushes the limits of what is possible in modern music.
Flavia Huarachi -Versatile in her approach to music, Flavias’ wildly untamed performance and caring presence carries the intention inviting the audience to experience a weaving of her different music roots, contemporary and ancient traditions of expression.
PJ Fossum is a Copenhagen based pianist, synthesist and electronic musician. Born and raised in Canada working mostly on classical music in his childhood, and having cut his teeth on the New York jazz scene, he’s been moulded into a versatile and genre defying artist. Now with a focus on improvised music and jazz, he pulls from a diverse range of aesthetic influences in an inventive and expressive manner across both acoustic and electronic instruments creating colourful and inventive sound worlds.
Rafał Różalski – polish double bass player and improviser currently residing in Copenhagen. His playing is radically acoustic, expressive and raw combination of broad inspirations (jazz, hip hop, rock, western classical music, polish folk). Member of Alawari, RASP Lovers, Marcel Baliński Quartet (featuring Rudi Mahal), Margaux Oswald Collateral Damage and Pimpono ensemble, among others.
Rémy Gouffault – is a French drummer, improviser and composer who combines acoustic sound research and electronic instruments to play in a wide variety of contemporary music. Resolutely attracted to sound experimentation and collective creation, he is currently performing in various constellations as the electronic duo CATAPLASME, the noise/rock duo SWIMMINGPOOL and more recently the large acoustic ensemble CELLS.
