Sunday Sessions er et nyt initiativ præsenteret i KoncertKirken for kreativ og improviseret musik, der søger at skabe forbindelser og udveksling på tværs af generationer og kunstneriske kredser. Initiativet er startet for at facilitere koncerter med fokus på kreativ og improviseret musik med henblik på at styrke den kreative proces i musikken. Sunday Sessions præsenteres i samarbejde med KoncertKirken.
Oswald/Užameckis/Asheim
Oswald/Užameckis/Asheim er en klavertrio med en særlig følsom tilgang til deres improviserede musik. Med forskellige baggrunde fra det europæiske musikfelt bevæger Margaux Oswald (Schweiz) på klaver, Aurelijus Užameckis (Litauen) på kontrabas og Ivar Asheim (Norge) på trommer sig mellem teksturelle, atonale, melodiske og rytmiske landskaber med stor dynamisk bredde og øje for detaljer. De tre unge musikere har hver især samarbejdet med navne som Kaja Draksler, Kresten Osgood, Kasper Tranberg, Michael Griener, Lotte Anker, Andreas Røysum, Simon Toldam og Sten Sandell, for at nævne nogle få.

Den improviserende strygetrio med saxofon udspringer af samarbejdet mellem cellisten TJ Borden og saxofonisten Louise Dam Eckardt Jensen, hvis debutalbum blev udgivet på det danske pladeselskab Marsken Records.
I 2022 udvidede kerneduoen med to ekstra strygere, den amerikanske violinist Erica Dicker og den dansk-amerikanske bassist Tom Blancarte, og dannede en kvartet, der forener et bredt spektrum af musikalske indflydelser.
Deres samarbejde, med støtte fra Statens Kunstfond, udforsker mangfoldige lydlandskaber med rødder i eksperimentelle og improvisatoriske praksisser. Gennem samspillet mellem teksturer, stilhed og lyd navigerer kvartetten i stadigt skiftende strukturer, der udfordrer traditionelle musikformer. Hver optræden er et sted for intensiv udforskning, hvor både musikere og publikum engageres i spontan skabelse og intellektuel fordybelse.

Erica Dicker er en violinist dedikeret til at samarbejde med nulevende komponister og til at skubbe grænser i både klassiske og utraditionelle rammer. Hun er medstifter af det moderne kammermusik-kollektiv Till By Turning og optræder også i det eksperimenterende horntrio Kylwyria samt Katherine Young’s Pretty Monsters. Ericas elektro-akustiske projekt, Vaster Than Empires, udvider hendes udforskning af eksperimentelle lyde. Hun er koncertmester i Anthony Braxton’s Tri-Centric Foundation Orchestra og har optrådt med hans ensembler over hele Europa. Erica skriver også sin egen musik, og hendes debutalbum Taking Auspices blev udgivet på Tubapede Records. Udover sit eksperimenterende arbejde er hun en aktiv orkestermusiker, hvor hun blandt andet optræder med Grand Rapids Symphony og andre orkestre i Midtvesten.

Tyler J. Borden er en cellist, der arbejder med, i og omkring begrænsningerne af celloen. Oprindeligt fra Western NY, han er nu baseret i Brooklyn NY, hvor han bruger meget af sin tid på at finde måder at udnytte sine egne evner og instrumentets svagheder. T.J. Borden er en alsidig lydskaber, støjproducent, samarbejdspartner og fællesskabsorganisator. Som fortolker bringer han sin tekniske brillans til sit cellospil ved at arbejde tæt sammen med komponister i soloværker og i gruppeformationer som [Switch~ Ensemble] og Mivos Quartet. Som improvisator kan han findes i en skramlet bil med sine bandkolleger og turnere på tværs af landet for at spille på små venues og sove på fremmedes gulve. Som organisator kan man se ham arrangere koncerter for eksperimenterende kunstnere, især som medstifter af High Desert Soundings, en flerdages festival beliggende i ørkenen i det sydlige Californiens Wonder Valley.

Louise Dam Eckardt Jensen er en dansk-amerikansk saxofonist, komponist og multi-instrumentalist, hvis anti-autoritære tilgang har ført til en international karriere, hvor hun trives samtidig i den tætte og klaustrofobiske atmosfære i New York City og idyllen i det sønderjyske. I hendes musik kan man finde denne dualitet gennem en blanding af rå, uforsonlig udforskning af barsk støj, sammen med udforskning af søgende melodiske bevægelser, perkussive teksturer og generelle udvidede teknikker. Disse elementer trækker ligeledes på inspiration fra klassisk samtidsmusik. Hun er ikke tilbøjelig til at sidde på sidelinjen og leder sine egne ensembler som blandt andet er det improviserede no-wave band Sweet Banditry (med Brandon Seabrook, Tom Blancarte & Kevin Shea), medleder af det uhyggelige post-apokalyptiske improv duo The Home of Easy Credit sammen med sin mand Tom Blancarte og medlem af forskellige improvisationsgrupper, herunder Gauntlet Quartet med Peter Evans, Dan Peck og Tom Blancarte og Tactical Maybe med Nana Pi Aabo-Kim, Halym Kim og Tom Blancarte og Ephemeris (Carol Liebowitz, John Wagner & Tom Blancarte). Hendes kompositioner er blevet opført af forskellige ensembler, herunder New York’s Wet Ink Ensemble.

Sunday Sessions is a new initiative presented in KoncertKirken for creative and improvised music, aimed at inter-generational and cross-collaborative connection. Through concerts in partnership with other individuals and artists in residence, we aim to inspire an artistic exchange among musical circles. Oswald/Užameckis/Asheim are a piano trio with a particularly sensitive approach to their improvised music. With diverse backgrounds from the European music field, Margaux Oswald (Switzerland) on piano, Aurelijus Užameckis (Lithuania) on double bass and Ivar Asheim (Norway) on drums move between textural, atonal, melodic and rhythmic landscapes, with great dynamic breadth and eye for details. The three young musicians have each collaborated with names such as Kaja Draksler, Kresten Osgood, Kasper Tranberg, Michael Griener, Lotte Anker, Andreas Røysum, Simon Toldam and Sten Sandell, to name a few.

The improvising string trio with saxophone emerged from the collaboration between cellist TJ Borden and saxophonist Louise Dam Eckardt Jensen, whose debut album was released on the Danish label Marsken Records.
In 2024, this core duo expanded to include two additional string players: American violinist Erica Dicker and Danish-American bassist Tom Blancarte. Together, they formed a quartet that bridges a wide spectrum of musical influences.
Supported by the Danish Arts Foundation, their collaboration delves into diverse sonic landscapes rooted in experimental and improvisational practices. Through the interplay of textures, silence, and sound, the quartet navigates ever-shifting structures that challenge traditional musical forms.

Erica Dicker is a violinist dedicated to collaborating with contemporary composers and pushing boundaries in both classical and unconventional settings. She is a co-founder of the modern chamber music collective Till By Turning and performs with the experimental horn trio Kylwyria as well as Katherine Young’s Pretty Monsters. Erica’s electro-acoustic project, Vaster Than Empires, extends her exploration of experimental soundscapes. As concertmaster of Anthony Braxton’s Tri-Centric Foundation Orchestra, she has performed with his ensembles across Europe. Erica is also a composer, and her debut album, Taking Auspices, was released on Tubapede Records. Beyond her experimental work, she is an active orchestral musician, appearing with the Grand Rapids Symphony and other ensembles in the Midwest.

Tyler J. Borden is a cellist who engages with, challenges, and redefines the limitations of the cello. Originally from Western New York, he is now based in Brooklyn, NY, where he dedicates much of his time to discovering ways to harness both his own capabilities and the perceived weaknesses of his instrument. A versatile sound artist, noise-maker, collaborator, and community organizer, T.J. brings technical brilliance to his interpretations, working closely with composers on solo works and ensemble pieces, including with [Switch~ Ensemble] and the Mivos Quartet. As an improviser, he tours the country with his bandmates, often performing at intimate venues and crashing on strangers’ floors. As an organizer, he curates concerts for experimental artists, notably as co-founder of High Desert Soundings, a multi-day festival in the Southern California desert.

Louise Dam Eckardt Jensen is a Danish-American saxophonist, composer, and multi-instrumentalist whose anti-authoritarian approach has led to an international career, thriving in both the intense atmosphere of New York City and the tranquility of Southern Jutland. Her music blends raw, unforgiving noise with searching melodic movements, percussive textures, and extended techniques, drawing from contemporary classical music and experimental influences. Jensen leads and co-leads various ensembles, including the no-wave band Sweet Banditry, the post-apocalyptic improv duo The Home of Easy Credit, and the saxophone quartet Ablunder. She is also part of various improvisational groups like Gauntlet Quartet, Tactical Maybe, and Ephemeris. In 2022, she began a collaboration with American cellist TJ Borden, resulting in their debut album on Denmark’s Marsken Records.
Her compositional work was recently featured at the 2024 Rued Langgaard Festival, where her piece included members of the Esbjerg Ensemble. Additionally, her compositions have been performed by ensembles like New York’s Wet Ink Ensemble, further highlighting her wide-ranging influence across the contemporary music world.
