Westgaard/Ventling – In Orbit
Hein Westgaard – guitar
Alex Ventling – prepared piano
Alex Ventling – prepared piano

TYI is a group founded by Lithuanian bassist Aurelijus Užameckis, joined by cutting-edge international musicians: trumpetist Erik Kimestad Pedersen, saxophonist Jon Sensmeier, bass
clarinettist Marcus Warnheim, percussionist Irene Bianco and drummer Halym Kim.
Their music is a modern manifestation of genre blending and multiculturality. With elements of hip-hop, free jazz, psychedelic rock and folk, the music of the ensemble becomes a synthesis
where vivid daydreaming soundtracks and minimalistic melodies meet energetic outbursts and embodied rhythms. This synthesis, enforced by ensemble’s voices and improvisations, guides through the narratives in the music.
The narrative and intention of the ensemble’s music is an ambiguous reflection on today’s world and present human experiences. To evoke thoughts, imagery and to open up to a broader understanding of (co)existence.
During three years of the ensemble’s existence, they had collaborations with several global artists, played in festivals, concerts and created live soundtracks for movies. In 2022The Young Immigrants released their debut album Head Borders.

Recorded over two days in the ever so flat Denmark, the freely improvised duo album reflects a lyricism and tranquility perhaps owing a shared longing to the mountains, with Westgaard being Norwegian, and Ventling carrying a sense of home in both Switzerland and New Zealand. The sounds of the guitar and prepared grand-piano seamlessly blend as to create a single sound source, or rather multiple sources of uncertain origin. Natural sceneries, expansive atmospheres and investigations into the smallest details create the listening pallet. From minimalistic soundscapes to dynamic sonic narratives, ‘In Orbit’ encapsulates the spur-of-the-moment adventurousness that open ended improvisation calls for.
