Oskar Tomala (PL) + HEJNO
Oskar Tomala – Polish sound artist, composer and improviser based in Copenhagen and Gdańsk. Working in the field of instrumental composition, electro-acoustic installations and music for motion pictures. His current explorations are oriented towards the research for correlations of sound spectrum and architecture space, the interaction of tones and the search in timbres of sine waves, white noises, various instruments and field recordings. Today he co-leads his quartet ZIEMIA, which was formed in 2019. Since 2020, he has been closely associated with the Kolonia Artstów in Gdańsk and Gdańsk’s electro acoustic music society.
Although he is a nomad in life, musically he moves in the regions of various static sound semi-transparencies, spectrums of dullness, pastel tones and resonating wave ripples. In his work he pays special attention to body contact and the psychophysical experience of listening in space. He combines the sound of acoustic instruments with a variety of syntheses based on non-tempered tunings and field recordings that relate the listener to an archive of memories of everyday life, details of the uncommon in the many journeys through life.
recordings to give the listener a meditative experience grounded in the nature of human elementalism.

Although the music is strongly influenced by jazz legends such as Charles Mingus, Ornette Coleman, and Paul Motian, the band also draws inspiration from more popular/indie-rock artists, for example Phoebe Bridgers, and the band Dot Hacker.
The group released its first EP, “HEJNO”, in February 2023 in Prague, featuring some of the most prominent musicians of the Czech music scene. After Peter’s move to Denmark in August 2023, the group underwent a transformation, giving rise to a new Copenhagen-based constellation.
