This concert gives a little window into a work in progress, after a two day residency in KoncertKirken.
TERROIR is a collaborative project between composer Nick Martin and photographer/visual artist Malin Annie. The project is conceived as a continuous, through-composed multidisciplinary piece containing music, texts and images, and will be released and exhibited in a space in Copenhagen in autumn 2020.
Music
Written over a two year period, in music and texts, Martin explores the theme of early childhood – in particular, how formative one’s first environment and relationships are (the first piece starts with a choir singing ‘Our tangled worlds dance in one another’s shadows’). The music is scored for a mixed ensemble of solo voices, choir, strings, organ/harpsichord.
Musicians:
Cassandra Lemoine – Soprano
Ania Rybacka – Soprano
Lo Ersare – Alto
Hanne Marie le Fevre – Mezzo soprano
Jakob Skjoldborg – Tenor
Yngvild Ruud – Cembalo / organ
Mika Persdotter – Viola
Tove Bagge – Viola
Adam Grauman – Viola da gamba
Nicole Hogstrand – Cello
Images
Annie’s work with film and images are inspired by her personal reflections on her past. She is working on creating “Visual rooms” that are hoped to trigger feelings of recognition in the viewers. The visual language takes its starting point from a photo series Annie made of one of her own childhood homes, positioned within a remote landscape awakening both nostalgia and emptiness. In this series, depicting a house devoid of humans or furniture, Malin focuses on the traces left by chairs and tables on the floors, stained wallpaper revealing where pictures once hung, and fragments of a carpet that has imprinted itself onto the wooden floorboards.
