How do you create a musical project?
Many musicians find themselves eager to create their own musical project, rather than to be hired for already organized projects. This entrepreneurial urge, beyond offering new personal musical input, also enhances the collective musical scene, with new ideas, repertoire and working possibility.
Yet this is very challenging territory, and those who have attempted it are aware of it. It is about much more than making music – it is about management.
Jonathan Ofir is musical director of Copenhagen Soloists, a vocal and instrumental ensemble that has been operating for 13 years. His experience goes beyond playing violin, leading and conducting – it also involves management of the administrative functions of the ensemble, including seeking of funding, booking, PR etc.
Several musicians have sought to gather with the question in mind: How to create a musical project? These people are colleagues: Gilbert Martinez, Tinne Albrechtsen, Georgina McKay Lodge, Justin Bland, Bjorn Ross, and Jonathan Ofir. Together they have decided to gather into a small symposium at Koncertkirken, on the 10th of January 2020, 12:00-15:00, to discuss this question. The discussion is open for everyone who may be interested.
While the idea was initiated by Jonathan, and while he will generally conduct the event, this is not a lecture. The participants have varied degrees of experience and knowledge in this area, and we all have various experiences to share. We will be discussing things like funding, timing, booking, pitfalls etc. – to enhance our awareness of this territory and provide for an enriched opportunity for the future.
The symposium will be in English for easy international access.
