Toldam is one of Denmark’s most exciting pianists. He can play Thelonious Monk in one moment, do a triogig with Han Bennink in the next, before he ends with a duo like this. His imagination is great and it’s almost as if he and the piano melts together when listening to his lyrical and exciting playing.Davidsen is best known as a bassist, but if possible, he is as exciting as celloplayer. Throughout jazzhistory, many has brought the cello into jazz. Oscar Pettiford, Ron Carter, Abdul Wadud, Tristan Honsinger and Tom Cora are just some them. But I cannot remember having heard anyone, within jazz, treat this instrument so “jazz perfect” as Davidsen did this evening. Brilliant.”
