Nikita Rafaelov (piano) [FI] : album release
————
The amazing Nikita Rafaelov of Finland is in town, and he’s coming up with a new solo release ‘Spirit of Gaia’, that will be released on that day by Gotta Let It Out! It is a solo piano album, but a different kind than you might think. Nikita improvises his way forward through multilayered piano tracks to create minimalistic yet dense structures he calls ‘songs’. Goethe once said architecture is frozen music – this record is fluid architecture.
Here he’ll perform a intimate solo piano set, but without technology – just you, him, and the piano. Sick!
Anna Högberg + Signe Dahlgreen (saxophones) [SE/DK]
————
Two of the most intense voices on saxophone in the new scene in Scandinavia meet on one stage!
Anna Högberg, a member of ‘Fire! Orchestra’ and ‘The Thing’, shook the world of improvised music with her ‘Anna Högberg Attack’ two years ago, and she’s been keeping the curve of flabergastment steadily up ever since.
Signe Dahlgreen, a founding member of the beyond amazing ‘Yes Deer’, has just came up with an amazing solo cassette that she recorded for Astral Spirits of Austin, Texas & our favourite Insulamusic of Copenhagen, and that tape after only 3 days on the market is almost sold out by now. And I didn’t even got the chance to buy it! DAMN!
Not to be missed.
Mat Maneri + Tanya Kalmanovitch (violas) [US/CA]
————
I’ve kickstarted only one album in my life, and it took like 3 years before it reached me, but when it did EVERYTHING changed. I’m talking some-of-my-favorite-music-ever kind of experience! And YES, the otherworldly viola duo consisting of one of the most important living improvising string players Mat Maneri, and maybe a bit less known in Europe, but by all means equally gifted and recognised Tanya Kalmanovitch, is coming to town! They are very rarely in Europe and flying from NYC only for this one concert, so this is a do-not-miss-it-or-you’ll-regret-it-for-ever situation!
