Laura Toxværd (alto saxophone) solo
————————–
Laura Toxværd is a Danish composer and saxophonist. Her music has been described as “geometric post-jazz” by ‘The Wire’, with such divergent inspirations as Charlie Parker and 1990s grunge music added a bit of electronica. As a composer she often explores the realm of graphic notations – and that was exactly what her 2 year-long research coronated in 2016 with highly acclaimed 3 vinyl releases and a book of graphic notations was about. Laura is well-established as performer and composer on the European scene and she has not been playing solo lately, so that is an awesome opportunity!
Søren Kjærgaard (piano) solo
————————–
Søren Kjærgaard’s work as a pianist, composer and improviser
encompasses a variety of settings ranging from his trans-Atlantic trio with drummer Andrew Cyrille and bassist Ben Street, to the duo
collaboration with Torben Ulrich, the 82 year old legendary Danish
tennis player and inter-disciplinary artist. Søren is regarded as one of the leading voices coming out of the vibrant Danish jazz, improv and new music scene today.
Most of his activities in recent years have been exploring and
interweaving different approaches to music and sound, converging
elements of improvisation, composition, performativity and practice into one dynamic field of play. This has lead to a manifold of international exchanges, commissions and a growing discography of critically acclaimed albums – among others his third trio release “Femklang” with Street and Cyrille was selected as Album Of The Year 2011 in The New York Jazz Record.
This concert happens just at the end of Søren’s solo project research into multi-time simultaneous layers in music. That WILL be out of this world…
Lotte Anker + Tomo Jacobson (saxophones & double bass) duo
————————–
Lotte Anker is a Copenhagen-based saxophone player and composer working in the field between experimental jazz/improvisation and contemporary music. Her music includes both melodic (often twisted or fragmented) elements and more abstract textural material and covers a wide territory from minimal, transparency to dense and dark expressionism.
Lotte Anker has been initiator and bandleader of a number of highly
acclaimed collaborations and groups such as Anker, Taborn, Cleaver (w/ Craig Taborn and Gerald Cleaver), Trio with Sylvie Courvoisier and Ikue Mori, to name a few. Other recent projects are the 8-piece group What River Ensemble, duo with Fred Frith and a quartet with Johannes Bauer, Clayton Thomas and Paul Lovens.
Tomo Jacobson is a Polish born double bass player based for the past 10 years in Copenhagen. He has been an integral part of the recent Copenhagen improv scene movement, as well as performed around the globe with the grates like Andrew D’Angelo, John Tchicai, Adam Rudolph, Rasul Siddik, Frank Gratkowski, Fred Lonberg-Holm, Sun Araw, and many others. With over 25 releases to his credit Tomo is currently working on his solo project releasing one solo album every month throughout the year.
This duo is moving mountains. COME!
