Julie Kjær (saxophones, flutes, clarinets) solo
————————–
Julie Kjær’s edgy and thoughtful playing and ‘dark, otherworldly imagery’ (Jazzwise) has become increasingly evident around Europe, inhabiting ground between composition and free improv. Experimenting with extended techniques, sound and rhythm she pushes her instruments to their limits.
She tours internationally with Norwegian drummer Paal Nilssen-Love and his Large Unit. She also plays with London Improvisers Orchestra and is a leader and side woman of several other English and Danish ensembles, as well as with Django Bates and StoRMChaser. Currently her main focus is on her trio, Julie Kjær 3, with bass player John Edwards and drummer Steve Noble. Their debut album ‘Dobbeltgænger’ was released on 14th March ’16 on the great Clean Feed Records.
Kaja Draksler + Grzegorz Tarwid (two pianos) duo (SVN/PL)
————————–
Kaja Draksler (1987) is a Slovenian pianist and composer based in Amsterdam. She has been leading and co-leading some of the hottest bands of the season, her Octet (with a release at Clean Feed Records) being on the them, and her duo record with Susana Santos Silva and solo record ‘The Lives of Many Others’ (both also from Clean Feed Records) got real singing-great reviews too.
Grzegorz Tarwid (1994) on the other hand is Polish, but educated and based in Copenhagen. He is well known to the Danish improv scene, and his recent releases ‘Sundial’ and later ‘Sundial II’ with the trio Jachna/Tarwid/Karch he’s a co-leader to, both got a lot of hype lately.
Both Kaja & Grzegorz are some of the most interesting young improvising pianists out there, and having an opportunity to hear them together in a duo is just out of this world!
Jesper Løvdal (saxophones, flutes, clarinets) solo
————————–
One can recognize Jesper Løvdal’s warm sound on the tenor saxophone, vitality and presence in his expression, and a strong will to become one with the music, a mile off. He is one of his generation’s most diverse and remarkable talents with all of the jazz-history incorporated in his playing. He has recorded and performed with Sam Yahel, Jeff Ballard, Tim Hagans, Günter ‘Baby’ Sommer, Nils Wogram, Cuong Vu, Pat Metheny, David Bowie, Chris Speed and Dave Douglas, and many others. He is a true champ and he will play for us a solo set featuring a big collection of his saxophones, flutes, and clarinets of different sizes. Don’t miss!
