EQUINOX Chamber Music Festival
“FOLK SONGS”
Equinox Chamber Music Festival presents our opening concert “FOLK SONGS”, an evening of music exploring notions of home.
The programme opens with Gabriela Lena Frank’s “Four Pre-Inca Sketches”, followed by Bo Holten’s “Clarinet Quintet”, a delicate and touching fantasy on a Danish folk melody.
The evening continues with Grazyna Bacewicz’s playful “Quartet for Four Violins”, and concludes with Florence Price’s masterful String Quartet no.2 – a nostalgic evocation of the thick summer air of the American South.
The evening also includes two newly choreographed dance works on “Four Pre-Inca Sketches” and “Quartet for Four Violins”. The pieces are commissioned as part of Equinox Festival’s Choreographic Laboratory, where dance artists collaborate with musicians on integrating choreography into the chamber works.
Equinox is an annual chamber music and dance festival uniting friends and artists from across the world for one week of concerts in Copenhagen. On the program are masterpieces by underrepresented composers and newly created dance works by the festival ensemble.
