The trio synthesize elements of jazz, folk/world, classical, minimalism and the avant-garde in a mixture of free improvisation and original compositions. Equilibrium’s two first album releases “Equilibrium” and “Walking Voices” won a number of nominations as “best jazz album of the year”, and holds a cult status among an international group of younger generation of jazzmusicians.
Equilibrium is made up of belgium clarinetist Joachim Badenhorst, Norwegian vocalist and saxophonist SIssel Vera Pettersen and danish guitarist Mikkel Ploug.
Joachim has performed all over the world and worked with the likes of Han Bennik Trio, Tony Malaby Novola and Dave Douglas. He is to be found on Downbeat’s poll for best clarinetist and is much celebrated on the european jazz and experimental scene. He is known for his solo work as well as his large ensemble Carate Urio Orchestra with some of Europes finest young musicians.
The Norwegian vocal phenomena Sissel Vera Pettersen spell binds the listeners with her vocal soundscapes of loops and colorful use of her unique voice. She has worked with outstanding people like Lionel Loueke, John Hollenbeck, Theo Bleckman, and Chick Corea.
Mikkel Ploug has released a number of albums on esteemed labels Fresh Sound, Whirlwind Recordings, Sunnyside Records and have toured all over the world with his trio and quartet featuring american saxophonist Mark Turner. He has performed with the Royal Danish Ballet and has won much international recognition for his original music.
