DUO DULCES EXUVIAE

Romain Bockler, baritone (fr)
“Pleine de Deuil” – Itinéraire de la mélancolie chez Josquin Desprez
In this programme the duo Dulces Exuviae invites the listener in the intimate world of Josquin Desprez. A genius composer, solitary musician and known not to be easy to hang out with, Josquin by all means has this melancholic character, this natural and unique temperament that used to be a proof of wisdom and which allowed to the chosen ones to become truly exceptional beings.
In his secular chansons as well as in the sacred repertory Josquin sublimes this emblematic elegance of the Renaissance. Interpreted here in an ensemble of great simplicity, his music affects the listener by its emotional appropriateness, as well as the melodic genius of the composer.
Gathered in candlelight around a table, the singer Romain Bockler and the lute player Bor Zuljan invite the audience to an intimate yet powerful musical moment of great sensibility.
Bor Zuljan (sl)
Bor Zuljan (1987) is active in different musical genres and projects and searches for a synthesis of contemporary and early music, different world music traditions, jazz and improvisation. He plays guitars, different kinds of lutes, vihuela, oud, tar and other early and traditional plucked-strings instruments. The search for the connection between sound, image and word led him to collaborate in different interdisciplinary projects.
He is performing regularly as soloist and with ensembles, such as Le Concert Brisé, Geneva Camerata, Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra, Ensemble Contrechamps, in duo with Dusan Bogdanovic, as well as with his ensemble La Lyra. His projects have been presented in festivals such as the Laus Polyphoniae in Antwerpen, Oude Muziek in Utrecht, Festival Radovljica in Slovenia and many others. He also performed in China, Algeria, Germany, France, Switzerland, Spain, Denmark and in Croatia.
From 2011, he is the artistic director of an early music festival Flores Musicae in Slovenia. His critical edition of Gorzanis’ Second lute book has been published by the Slovenian Musicological Society and a CD “La barca del mio amore” with music by the same composer, featuring italian singer Pino De Vittorio, is about to be published for the label Arcana (Outhere).
After graduating in jazz and classical programmes at the Ljubljana Conservatory of Music, he continued his studies with Aniello Desiderio in Koblenz, Germany. In 2007 he started studying at the Haute Ecole de Musique de Genève where he then obtained a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Guitar and Lute (Dusan Bogdanovic, Jonathan Rubin), continued with a specialization in Medieval music and finished a MA in music pedagogy. Since 2011 he has been working as research assistant at the same school on a project on Fantasia improvisation on lute in the 16th Century.
He teaches lute at the Conservatoire Populaire de Musique, Danse et Théâtre de Genève, and has given numerous conferences and master classes at institutions, such as the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, Fondazione Giorgio Cini in Venice, CNSMD Lyon, Haute Ecole de Musique de Genève, Escuela Superior de Musica de Mexico, and the Ljubljana Academy of Music.
