rosyán
rosyán is the solo project of the Danish/Iranian composer, cellist and sound artst Rosanna Lorenzen. With the cello in the leading role she explores the instrument and its possibilites, both acoustcally and through electronic manipulaton, which results into new unpredictable sound paterns that emerges, all from fragile passages to raw and massive – ofen combined with feld recordings, both unpolished and processed. In her sound she moves fuidly between atmospheric soundscapes and rhythmic structures, constantly balancing between improvisaton and predetermined form.
She works and collaborates across genres, with other musicians and visual artsts. She has performed in diverse setngs, ranging from sound wells in Frederiksberg, on a bass vibratng foor, a dome in Berlin, sleep concerts and an audiovisual performance piece in an 18-meter tall oil tank in Sweden with 25 seconds of reverberaton, to venues like the Cathedral of Copenhagen, SPOT Festval, SPOR Festval, and the Danish Radio Concert Hall
Rosanna Lorenzen is currently studying for a Master’s Degree at the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen.
PJ Fossum – Touchstone
Each melody is a fable. Merging with our essence and unifying dispersed pinpoints of intentions into a single constellation. The dovetailed motion, the imperfect unison, the collective meaning, billows to carry all of us upon our own wings, yet, it is this wise wind itself that allows us together to soar.
And in an instant we disperse. Falling back to the earth, ready to once again gather, and rise up.
TouchStone is a new project consisting of Laura Zöschg (voice), Aurelijus Užameckis (bass), Hein Westgaard (guitar), and PJ Fossum (piano).
PJ Fossum is a Copenhagen based pianist, synthesist and composer. Born and raised in Canada, he studied classical music in his childhood, and grew into more rhythmic and improvised musics in adolescence. Having moved to New York and cut his teeth in its jazz and improvised music scenes, he’s been moulded into a versatile and genre defying artist. Now based in Copenhagen, he focuses on electro-acoustic music and jazz, pulling from a diverse range of aesthetic influences in an inventive and expressive manner across both acoustic and electronic instruments creating colourful and inventive sound worlds.
He is currently touring with his project Amalgamation-Integration. In this setup he injects electronic sounds into the acoustic piano using transducers, transforming the soundboard of the piano itself into a speaker. Through this speaker-soundboard, the strings of the piano are induced to resonate with the input sounds creating not only a unique timbral quality but haunting and mysterious reverberations.
He is also working in duo with New York based vocalist/composer Judette Elliston in a project called Estuary. This collaboration envelopes the listener in a tapestry of soaring melodies and lush harmony drawing from the artistry of Joni Mitchell, Paul Simon, and Billy Strayhorn, seamlessly blending sincere melodies with free-flowing improvisation. Their debut EP will release in late 2024.
Additionally he has written a handful of other performance-specific pieces including; Guitar Summit CPH 2024 for 30 guitars and room (2024); Music for 5 Pianos (2022), TEXTING suite for small improvising ensemble, audience, and cell phones (2023); Svømme for 5 spatialized transducer-piano sound-system, and 9 piece ensemble (2022); Polyality for transducer-piano, two voice+electronics, and strings (2021); and ACTIVATION, inspired by notes of Alvin Lucier for piano, electronics, and tape (2019).
